![]() It has been described as "holding a unique position in the Christian world" and as "the greatest of all churches of Christendom". Peter's is regarded as one of the holiest Catholic shrines. While it is neither the mother church of the Catholic Church nor the cathedral of the Diocese of Rome (these equivalent titles being held by the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran in Rome), St. Peter's is the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture and the largest church in the world by interior measure. Designed principally by Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Carlo Maderno and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, St. The Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican (Italian: Basilica Papale di San Pietro in Vaticano), or simply Saint Peter's Basilica (Latin: Basilica Sancti Petri), is a church built in the Renaissance style located in Vatican City, the papal enclave that is within the city of Rome. Naming a bratwurst after one or both of these kings casts a revealing light at the way Bavarians of today see their own history. This picture was taken last year at the Oktoberfest in Munich. After Ludwig‘s death Otto was proclaimed King, but he never reigned because he really was insane and living in medical confinement until he died in 1916. ![]() The other Otto (King Otto of Bavaria, 1848-1916) was the brother of the „dream king“ Ludwig II who died 1886 under mysterious circumstances after having been presumed to be mentally disordered. He had to abdicate 1862 after never having been able to come to terms with his subjects. of Greece, (1815-1867) a Bavarian prince who was made King of Greece 1832 after the country was liberated from turkish supremacy. In Bavaria where i live we had two rather tragic Ottos in the 19/20th century:Otto I. Otto is an old german name (like Otis in english) ![]()
